First and most importantly, stay as calm as possible. When you initially took out your policy with our office you should have received a claims packet that contains important documents and phone numbers. ALL the auto insurance carriers have 24 hour, 7 day a week claim reporting services. You should contact them as soon as possible.

After you report the claim, it will assigned to a trained and experienced professional called an adjuster. They will assign you a claim number and give you phone numbers where you can reach them to follow up on your claim. He will make every attempt to get your car and most importantly your life back in order as soon as possible.

This includes arranging a rental car, (if coverage is available), and assisting you in choosing a qualified body shop to fix your car. They will answer any questions you have and if you have any further questions or problems you can always contact our office.

At the accident scene

Most importantly, make sure no one is injured. If so, request medical assistance immediately.

If possible, leave the vehicles where they came to rest, if this does not disrupt traffic or cause any inconvenience or dangerous conditions. Otherwise move your vehicle safely off the road.

Even if the accident appears minor, call the police immediately. A police report is what the insurance companies use to determine fault. This will determine whether or not you will be charged with the accident on your insurance policy.

Do not argue with the other parties involved, admit guilt, or discuss the accident with anyone other then the police or the claims adjuster.

Gather as much information as you can regarding the other party involved. Write down his insurance company, policy number, phone number, vehicle involved, and most importantly get a copy of the police report.

Try to remember the location and extent of damages of all vehicles.

Note the location, time of day, weather and road conditions that might be pertinent to the facts of the accident.

Also try to get names and phone numbers of any witnesses who can co-oberate your version of the accident.

If a camera is available, photograph the scene from as many different angles as possible.

All this will be asked of you when you make your report to your insurance company. Please be patient while the adjuster is asking you questions. Remember, he is working for you and will do everything he can to make the whole experience more bearable.
